Roman legionnaire buckle

06 Aug 2018

Last week went back on the same spot were the Merovingian brooch was found.I was back was really focused on every signal the EQUINOX made. Very tiny scratch signal but VDI showed 22... 11 inch deep, a stunning Roman legionnaire buckle in again beautiful patina. The buckle is a very important found. And is now on its way to Amsterdam for a full inspection the letters have (probably) a ceremonial meaning. The D-shaped brace has a facetted edge and both ends go out on stylized animal heads, which hold the hinge bar in their opened mouth. The stinger kept, has a slight bend over the ring. A rectangular plate, which is double pleated around the hinge bar. The plate attached to the leather with two bronze staples. Dating: 325 - 430 AD
