It was a warm summer day when I grabbed my new Minelab 6000 and headed out on my adventure. I normally go to areas I know to have less junk but on this day I picked a spot I knew would be difficult and it was! After arriving snake guards in place I set out to see what this machine could do. My first target was a spent 22 bullet and of course it was wedged in a bedrock crack making it difficult to recover. I worked for the next couple of hours finding every metal object known to man.....Junk. Hot and dripping sweat I urged myself to continue despite the fact my pockets were full of garbage. The wash I was working began to narrow when I noticed an area where a sizable tree lined the outer bank and would be a great place to take a much needed break. After chowing down on some Cheetos and killing the last of my water I decided it was time to head back but there was shade at the tree so I couldn't pass up checking the spot. My Minelab had only been on for a minute when I heard a hard signal and began digging, 2 inches, 3 inches now 6 inches and the detector was screaming. I now had the target in my spoon and it didn't take long to see what I had unearthed....an 1870 Half dime was staring at me and this was my first old coin and to know I was the first to see it in a very long time meant even more. I have always made a point to recheck my dig site before covering it up and one swing over confirmed I was not done digging. To my delight I was once again looking at another coin and this one was a 1835 5 cent piece....what a day! Smiling ear to ear I loaded up my equipment and headed for home, what an incredible find.
