Anglo Boer War British Water Camteens

19 Feb 2021

It was our annual provincial hunt back in 2017 or 2018 I think. It was a slow day and we struggled to get some decent finds. The last place I took the team for the day was a hill/koppie next to spekboom river in the eastern transvaal just outside our town lydenburg. It was surely a steap and difficult climb. On this koppie Col C. W Park of the British army was stationed back in 1902. They called it Bridge Post. Guarding the spekboom Bridge, the old train Bridge and lydenburg. At this Tim lydenburg was in British rule. Finds we're few. A few Canon friction tubes came out. 303 bullets and other bits of relics. I was depressed getting nothing when I got a nice deep signal. I started digging and saw some blue enamel. I wasn't thinking anything of it and thought maybe a nice old tin plate or kettle or something. To my amazement out came three blue enamel water canteens. And the fourth, fifth. By the time we were finished a total of 16 canteens in one hole. History in the making. All damaged with a spike of some sorts. Obviously so the Boers wouldn't be able to use it. What an incredible day. Myself, Tjaart, Xander, uncle Ben and David another friend who I can't remember now where extatic. I won a minelab gofind 66 with that find on the annual hunt. And that's our success story. Enjoy👌🏼
