My friend Chad had been begging me to get permission for a field where a schoolhouse once sat in 1874. It wasn’t there for long before it was either moved or destroyed, so we didn’t know of we’d find much there. It’s January in Michigan so you could imagine the type of digging conditions we were going to have. I got permission and we scouted the field; Chad using his Equinox 800, and myself, using the Equinox 600. There wasn’t many brick or pottery remnants in in the soil and we were digging a lot of trash near the road so I decided to move a little more into the field. Finally I hear a beautiful crisp 22/23 tone sound off at 6”. I start chipping away at the frozen soil and after working for about 15 minutes I finally pop out my target- a beautiful A. Gleason civil war token for Samm & Kuhlke Grocers in Hillsdale, Mich. I signal for Chad to come over so I could share the excitement. At first I thought it was a silver coin with its dark petina but, nonetheless, I was eccentric. This is my third civil war token since I’ve started this hobby in October. Thank you Minelabs for a great product!
