Palmer River Ripper

02 Sep 2022

On July 17th I had a very lucky find up far North of Australia near the Palmer River. In the lead up to that day I had been swinging the GPX 7000 with success on a few sub grammers and also up to 3 grams. However, knowing that I was heading into some deep dry Palmer River tributaries with huge rocks and very high banks I had decided to take the lighter GPX 6000. After digging a deep hole for my first target and finding a little chunk of lead I was thinking the same was about to happen a half hour later while digging my second target. Initially the target was just barely a movement in the threshold but enough to pull me up. I commenced digging on the slightly sloped bank about 1 meter above the creek bottom. I was down 50 cm the signal was much louder and the hole was angled into the bank and under a tree root. I grabbed the Minelab Pin Pointer to ascertain the general location of the target. Scratched more out around the area and then the nugget surfaced. Not only did it have some weight to it but (looks wise) it was a beautiful nugget and the biggest that I have ever found. When it was weighed I was very happy with the result , 7.5 ounces. You Ripper. Thanks Minelab Footnote; I am certain the GPZ 7000 would have brought the same result had I been using it and placed the coil over the nugget. Graeme Melbourne. Dunolly Victoria
