Pain my #*$$

03 Dec 2019

I purchased an EQUINOX 800 early this year. As my luck goes, I woke up a few days later and could not stand up or, hardly walk. Long story short, two blown disc in my lower lumbar. Months of physical therapy, before ultimately back surgery, followed by more physical therapy.

After months of terrible pain, I'm starting to feel human again, finally putting my walking cane down, beginning to drive and finally I was turned loose upon the world again with one thing on my mind. RELIC HUNTING!

First morning I could. I gently tossed my Equinox in my Jeep. Headed out the door checking sites for those tell tale signs relic hunters dream of. I avoided the woods because of Deer Season. I turned down an old road that myself and a few others have permission to dig. Part of the woods had been cleared for new fields. I jumped out of Jeep walking and finally seen signs of past occupation.

Then it hit me, how the heck do I operate this dang detector? I'd read the Equinox manual months before, watched videos but, quit when I was physical hurting. Reading about detectors & digging hurt my soul because I physically could not dig. Plus my memory is about as long as my umm, nevermind! Finally, my brain started kicking in. I remembered what I read months earlier. Actually once you start beating the keys the Equinox lay out flows pretty good. Then I finally started swinging my little heart out but, started seeing old covered dig holes. Then I realized that dig holes were everywhere.

I then settled down, figured well, I'm gonna learn my new Nox on this site today, LoL. I figured somebody spent a lot of time on this sight for a reason, I wanted to know why. I settled on using Field Mode 1, played with settings, not bragging but, I'm a very advanced detectorist, age wise anyways. Within 30 mins I was digging missed & small signals. Trying to figure out the TDI numbers looking for brass & pewter buttons is my passion. I was pretty impressed, digging good targets on a dug site, first time out with new detector. Then I dug the reason & purpose I'm boring you fine people.

I dug this sweet little thin 18x15mn lapel pin. About 4 inches in the ground, TDI reading 13/14, signal was strong clear, and double clicked in one direction. It wasn't just any lapel pin. It was WH Harrison 1840 presidential campaign pin or, "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too" pin. Buttons from this campaign are abundant. Lapel pins are rare and rarer yet. Are all metal/brass pins. Most where brass rim, with celluloid picture under glass. I'm not sure of value of this artifact but, knowing I can dig again without much pain is priceless. Now I'm about too learn this Nox inside out and unleash it on old sites across the South. Boom diggity boom, here I come again!!!
