I love metal detecting. I love getting out amongst the trees and hearing the wind blow across the leaves. I love the snapping of twigs beneath my boots and I love knowing that this day could be my day i get lucky and uncover something special that has been asleep in the ground for over 100 years. I rarely get to go metal detecting, i work 6 days a week and have a wife , 3 children and 2 dogs to support. I try to plan trips away around rostered days off but something always comes up ,but i managed to plan an overnight stay at a little town in N.S.W on a long weekend . Its a place with a long Gold Rush history from 1860's to the 1890's. I had my Equinox 800 set to field 1 and was scanning an area near a tree stump when suddenly i got a hit. I dug it up and it was ...... a square nail. After several more hits an many more square nails i said to myself " this is the last hole i dig today" then on the last hole, i dug up a Snake belt buckle which research tells me was worn by civilians and the military of that time. I was literally looking out for snakes whilst detecting but somehow managed to dig a belt buckle that looked like one on the day.
