Lucky finds of 1923 Australian Half penny and purse of predecimal Australian silver

09 Dec 2015

These are two of what I consider, my better finds made in recent times (last 4 weeks) with the CTX3030. I've been to one of these sites 6 times over the last 2 years. It's where I found the 1923 half penny and other decimal coins first, with another detecting friend. We were pretty sure it was cleaned out but the half penny and other coins and relics(not pictured) were still there to found. Last week however for a change, I decided to detect a site, I have never visited but nearby. I thought I'd show these finds as they are something I put down to the CTX3030's abilities to find and the way I set it up for the conditions of my really trash filled sites. It goes without saying, that patience and persistence, choosing the right site and then being lucky enough to walking over the target plays a big role in finding anything. Deciding as to whether a target is worth digging or not, also helps. Trying to limit the amount of digging is also something that needs to be considered if you want to preserve the area you are detecting. I try my best to leave the place in as good a state that I found it , so that anyone who says me detecting will have as little as possible to complain about. It also tells me if someone else has been there as I know how I cover my digging up.

I nearly walked away completely from the purse of coins, thinking it was another aluminium drinks can, but realizing shortly afterwards, that also it may have not been an aluminium drinks can helped me out, I just went back and dug it. Phew....lucky for me and lucky I had the CTX3030.
