Junes is starting off as a nice month for detecting. The waters have warmed up, the beaches are crowded and the winds are creating some nice waves. This past weekend was no exception. The surf was strong. Lots of waves and lots of people playing in them. While detecting, the surf line, I came across a set of "dog tags". I searched around to see if I could spot the potential owner but had no luck. The next day I googled the name, checked out some military forums and got some leads most of them a few years old. The leads led me to a college ROTC and neighboring police dept. After making a call, I was able to make contact with the Officer/ Reservist. It turns out he lost the tags while playing in the surf with his kids. Happy to get the tags back is an understatement, as he was being deployed in 3 days back to Afghanistan for his 3rd tour (losing tags is like losing your wallet). He wanted so much to reward me for finding the tags, but I insisted that his service was my reward and just having someone like him proudly serving our country was worth more to me than anything else. gold-digger - Florida, USA
