Howdy folks I found this sword hand guard on one of my local beaches on the dry side. It sounded really hard on my Equinox 800 (almost blew my ears away) high pitched tone. When I dug it out I noticed I made at least a 20” deep hole and out popped this brass item which obviousely at first I didn’t had any idea what it was. I post it on an online forum and in a matter of minutes someone post a link of what it was. To my surprise its a hand guard of a French Sartine Pattern Naval Cutlass sword from 1776-1783. My heart stopped when I read what they told me what it was. It still has the maker’s mark underneath. Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of finding relics and artifacts of this sort. Too bad I didn’t find the other parts of it.
