I have to start by saying. I have been detecting for 20+ years, both as a gold prospector & a relic hunter. I have had some amazing days but this one took the cake. Just a week prior to this find I had contacted my good friend & Minelab rep Gerry from Gerry's Detectors in IDAHO. I had bought a new EQUINOX 800 just days before. So I called Gerry to see if he would come out and do some personal training & hunting with me and a friend that also had bought one. Since I had been running my E-Track for the past (6) years I wanted to make sure I understood this new processor technology and the finer operating details. It was on, Gerry had time before his detector training in Nevada to come swing by my place and work some sites with me. We spent the whole weekend digging some amazing civil war solider buttons and some 1850 Nickels a few silver dimes and a quarter. All in all we had some great relics and finds an amazing trip! The whole (3) day we were detecting I was telling Gerry about how it was my goal to find a rare gold Mormon coin or some outlaw. So the following weekend came and I had no plan to go detecting in fact I had house work to do. But the detecting bug got the best of me. About 11 am and I was off on a (2) hour drive to try a location I had been studying all winter. Arriving at the location and forgetting to bring a jacket, of course the sky when grey and wind came up. I thought to myself "I drove all this way I better see if I can get at least an hour or so in". I was out of the car shivering and started up my 800. I had just got off the road 10' from where I parked surrounded by gopher holes and started swinging, my first solid tone came through in about (1) min. It was just a (15) on the equinox display, so I thought well here might be another good Brass civil war button? I dug my small plug and looked down I could see the edge of what I thought might be a brass or copper coin. So I just reached down and grabbed it, rubbed my finger across the front as was overcome with adrenaline!! It was GOLD I could not believe it I ran to the car to call my wife and tell her I just found a gold coin in the first hold I dug. This had made all those years of driving, studying & countless hours digging and detecting melt away. It was my pinnacle moment, I had recovered an 1856 S (3) Dollar Gold Coin in amazing condition. I feel I have won the detector lottery I have been running a GPX4500, E-Track for the past 10+ years. I can tell you I have never had such a good day! Thank you Gerry for all your knowledge and help through the years. Thank you Minelab for this amazing little machine, I have & always will be a life time customer!
