Detecting an abandoned gold mining town

03 Oct 2019

Today I end up visiting an abandoned gold mining town, same place I have previously found 7 different tokens. First ten minutes in I found an 1859 English furniture importers token. Next up a 1845 shilling, a 1867 Britannia penny and a half penny (date unknown) Now from there I thought I had been doing pretty ok for the day....until I popped out what I presume is a miners ring, gold gilded and with Bendigo stamped on inside. Could not believe my eyes! Not long after though I also managed to find another cricket buckle...3rd one for the year now. This one though being in excellent condition and fully intact! Such great detail and a truly amazing piece of history to hold. I also managed to find a few toe caps that used to be tacked into front and rear of leather shoes. A couple of cool buttons, one with numbers 18 on front. Originally from the 18th regiment on foot in Australia in 1870s All in all probably today has been one of my best days on the relics I have ever had. Happy about today's finds would be an understatement Maybe it's a bit of b-day luck from yesterday still with me, whatever it is though I'll take it!
