Bullet Ball Button

19 Dec 2019

I won a Minelab Equinox 800 at a club fundraiser with Minelab and Gary Drayton in Ormond Beach. I was using it for the first time in my yard and found this bullet ball button in a hole with some black smithed items. Research tells me they were made from 1810-1830s, and were used primarily in the 1830s on uniforms. Some of those uniforms were resurrected in the Civil War. A couple of days ago I found another one in my neighbour’s yard, about 50 yards from the one in my yard. There are not a lot of Civil War artefacts in Florida, but I believe it's possible someone that fought in that war lived on my property. It was part of a large piece of property that was divided and sold off in the 1800s. My neighbour’s property was the kitchen and servant's quarters for the big house behind it, and my yard was part of it.
