On a metal detecting holiday to England with Norfolk Metal Detecting Tours in August of this year, I found a portion of a Bronze Age dagger. We were in a field of I would guess a hundred or more acres. As usual I head to the middle slowly working my way across the field. I am old so slow is the normal speed, about in the middle of the field I make a left turn. About a minute later I get a good signal. Digging down about the length of my pinpointer I find a small flat faced button. The kind we call a cuff button in the states. As a precaution I always check to see if there is anything else in the hole. Bingo about half was to the bottom out pops this greenish colored flat object. I knew right away it was bronze, but not what it was. As you can imagine I was a little excited and couldn’t wait to tell someone. Luckily there were a couple of our group less than a couple hundred yards away and I casually strolled over to them. They confirmed my suspicions that it was Bronze Age and inintallly we thought spear. At lunch time Steve the tour operator confirmed Bronze Age but part of a dagger blade. That plus the 1859 Victoria Half Sovereign made my trip.
