On a hot Saturday afternoon in June the guys from our detecting club and I were hitting a new permission I had just obtained. It didn’t take long before we figured out that our new spot had already been detected pretty hard. We still pushed on and spent the afternoon scanning the ground finding a few good signals here and there including a nice flat button and civil war bullet. Right before it was time to pack up and leave I decided to work my way up the side of the bank and to an old oak tree beside the road when I received a screaming high tone on the equinox. My first thought was a soda can, but I decided to dig it up regardless. To my surprise the largest and prettiest chunk of decorative silver I have ever recovered popped out of the earth. The lesson here is guys to always dig those crazy high large signals. Funny thing was there was actually a soda can in the ground about three feet away.
