Hello,
Here is my story. My time to detect has been limited due to my recent job requirements, so I chose a close location to detect (my back yard!)
I am fortunate to live in a very history rich area of upstate New York. It has many old landmarks and battlegrounds from the revolutionary war.
I went to one of my productive locations under a large pine tree which has produced musket balls and a few old colonial buttons.
Was not there very long when I had a solid 12-47 signal from my CTX 3030. It was reading 10" down, so I chose to dig it. It was a good thing I did.
When I saw it at the bottom of the hole I knew it was a large copper, but it was dirt encrusted. So I put it in my finds pouch, and continued detecting for another hour. After I got in the house I took the coin and placed it under running water, and there I noticed it had a 7 stamped over a 6 on this Large cent.
Did some research and shown a few people the coin and they are pretty confident it is the rare version of this year coin.
I was shocked, this is by far my greatest find yet! The discrimination on the CTX 3030 showed 2 targets close together, one good, one Iron. I would not have found this coin if it weren't for this feature. I have gone over this area a bunch of times before with other detectors.
