As far a history and metal detecting goes nothing is more special to me than the American civil war. Having family that fought in many battles makes these finds even more special. In mid January I obtained permission to hunt a civil war battery that saw plenty of action during the war. Loaded up with my Safari and GPX 4800 I struck off to the woods. It wasn't long into the hunt when I started pulling out bullets, canister shot and artillery frags. I stayed with the Safari as there was little trash and plenty of shallow targets. I hunted for about six hours and pocketed plenty of finds including 24 bullets and canister shot, two artillery fuses, and a few artillery shell frags. These relics represent the fighting between the north and south where over 600,000 people lost their lives. My direct blood line made it through however he did lose two brothers during the war that divided so many families and states.
