It was only my second real hunt alone with my CTX 3030. A friend and I had hit this small field along a creek, many times before, but this was the first time I had my new 3030 on it. Within the first few minutes in the field, I got a deep 11:38 signal. I have dug many, many deep aluminum cans in this field, being along a creek, and figured that's what it was. I wasn't as careful as I should've been, and when I got down to about 15 inches, the signal showed in the side of the hole. I scraped away with my digger and then saw that I was scraping into old lead. I dug around it, and out came a US Belt Plate with the back hardware! I couldn't believe it!! I had broken off part of it as you can see in the photo. I was disappointed that I damaged it, but super excited that I dug this!
After pictures and after I settled down, I began detecting again and told myself, "If I EVER get another 11:38 signal out here, I'm going to dig A LOT more carefully!" Less than an hour later, BAM!!! 11:38 - and DEEP!!! You know how you get that feeling, that, this is good, but you tell yourself, it can't be....I had that. My heart was saying "IT'S ANOTHER PLATE!!" but my head was saying "No way, it's definitely going to be a can this time." Well I wasn't taking any chances and was careful, and......NO WAY!!! As I got close, to the signal, again about 15 inches deep, I scraped away the soil, and in the center of the hole, there's old lead looking up at me.
I cleaned the dirt away from it, it was oval shaped, I pushed the digger below it a bit to the side and lifted, and it flipped over, and I about FLIPPED OUT!!! I could NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! I don't expect to ever have a day like that again. How we missed these I'll never know, maybe it was the soil conditions that day, but I like to think it was the CTX 3030 - that day SOLD me on this machine.
