1800's cellar hole tiny silver

10 Jun 2019

It all came together for me this morning in Maine so I could get out for a few hours of metal detecting temperatures was going to be in the 70's and full sun slight breeze too keep the bugs at bay lol so perfect day! So off I went to an old 1800's cellar hole started off finding a few trash targets pop tops , bullet lead it seemed void of anything worth digging this place was littered with trash but I know with my Safari and my small 10x5 sef coil I had a chance to find a good repeatable target about 2 hours into searching I got this signal that was 37,38,39 bounce but the curser hugged the silver area which I rarely see and the depth was around 6 to 8 inches deep so I dug a plug and started too search for the target with my Minelab propointer and before I could even use the pinpointer there it was a tiny grayish looking disc hmmm I sat there looking and shaking for a few seconds and wondered what could this be a button or a coin So my curiosity got the best of me and I pick it up out of the hole and looked at it flipping it over several time and then my first words out of my mouth were omg I see an eagle on it so with amazement I said it can’t be it took me a few minutes to finally realize what I just found a 1836 capped bust half dime wow never in a million years would I ever figured I would find such a rare coin but later that day still in awe I looked it up and found out it was a 1836 capped bust large 5 C variety!! Nothing more was found at this old cellar whole site but it is worth a second look!
