When I first heard that Minelab could be working on a hand held pinpointing device, myself and a thousand others all sighed and thought it’s about time. There is always so much expectation of a great product whenever Minelab release something new, and for all you serious diehards the Minelab PRO-FIND 25 is not about to fail the reputation of this leader in the field of metal detection technology.
In the wake of the successful launch of the CTX 3030 we now have another outstanding product from Minelab that even takes pinpointing your finds to a new level. We all know there is nothing better than having full confidence in the tools you choose when out detecting, because on the flip side, there is nothing worse than something failing to deliver when you need it the most, enter the PRO-FIND 25.
What do we have here then?
My first impression was that it wasn’t a bulky device at all and easy to carry on your belt in the light holder that comes with it. I liked its look and noticed straight away that it had another button just behind the on/off switch with a plus and minus sign on, hmmm I wonder what this does.
Now like any typical male I stood there pressing the button at a hundred miles an hour while I was supposed to be listening to the instructions from a very patient technician. On reflection I am sure he was dying to snatch it from my hands to quiet the continuous beeping and gain my attention. The additional buttons increase or decrease the pinpointer’s sensitivity, huh why didn’t you just tell me!
The LED light at the front of the pinpointer is bright and clear. Another feature that would prove beneficial is the ability to run the PRO-FIND 25 in ‘stealth mode’ (that is vibrate only). You simply hold the minus side of the sensitivity button down when you turn the pinpointer on. To turn the audio back on simply hold the plus side of the button down when you turn the pinpointer on the next time.
Are these just bells & whistles?
Now these all sound great but how do they actually benefit me practically when I am out in the field detecting. The overall function of the PRO-FIND 25 is exceptionally good with excellent depth of detection, clarity of sound in a solid unit that is easy to handle. In a nutshell it’s a pleasure to use.
So what about this feature that can increase or decrease the sensitivity. Do I really need it? Well the answer to that is most definitely yes. This is the feature that really makes the PRO-FIND 25 stand out from the rest. This feature’s ability to stop ground noise in highly reactive areas is such a bonus when trying to locate exactly where the target is in the hole. I was able to stop all interference in areas where I have had so much trouble in the past, chasing targets that sometimes weren’t even there. This makes detecting so much easier and enjoyable, and that is exactly what you want so you are able to enjoy every aspect of detecting.
