The area where I live in Thailand has seen civilizations come and go over the long history of Thailand. You never know what you may find and where. One day, I was searching some deep jungle area with my friends when I got a very faint signal with an ID of around 10-11 on my EQUINOX 800. The target seemed long and narrow. My recovery was set to 2, so I bumped it up to 6 to determine if I was dealing with a deeper target. At 6, I got no reading so I knew it was going to be deep. I cleared about 10 cm of the surface material off and was still getting the target. I took the hole down to 30cm and it was still there, but I was not picking up the target with my pointer yet. Digging deeper still, I finally hit metal and saw the iron color. Thinking it was maybe a large nail; I cleared around the object and knew it was too big to be a nail. At this point, I called over my friends to help me expand the hole. It was already blistering hot under the mid-day Thailand sun. As we expanded the hole, I realized what I had found. A SWORD! After we removed the sword from the hole, I checked the hole again for good measure and got another signal! Under the sword was a spearhead. Unbelievable! But there was still more in the hole! When it was all said and done, we pulled out three coins and a piece of gold! The coins gave us a better indication of what the sword and spearhead may be as the coins were Funan and Dvaravati, dating back to the 5th century AD. This one hole contained the best finds of my lifetime.
