On May 27th, my 11 year old son and I got out to a new permission I obtained this year at around 7 p.m. I was swinging my E-TRAC and he was using my old X-TERRA 705. Within 15 minutes, I get a good sounding low repeatable tone showing 20-18. Since I was in a corn field I decided to dig. I dug and popped my plug and in front of me was a small gold circular object. I was a little dumbfounded, was it a gold gilded brass button that nature had been kind to and not tarnished it?
I took a pic as it laid before picking it up to further investigate. Once in my fingers I knew of what I was holding, something only ever seen in pictures before, a U.S Gold Dollar Coin minted in 1853!
My son and I we're both in shock and awe! Gold coins are something everyone wants to find and there I was, lucky enough to have done just that. Very memorable moment finding that amazing coin, but more memorable that my son was there with me!
Side note - after rechecking the plug hole as I always do, there was part of an old square nail imbedded in the side wall, hence the numbers and tone not jiving.
