WOW Continues

05 Jun 2016

Three days after I found my 1853 U.S. gold dollar coin, the wowness continued. I went out for a late afternoon swing on Memorial Day to the same field where I found my gold dollar coin. I had been detecting for just a short time and got a good sounding signal on my E-TRAC. I determined where I was going to dig and checked the surface with my pinpointer and found nothing.

I got back up and rescanned to be certain of where I wanted to dig and that is when I noticed a tiny disc shaped item sticking part way out of the ground. I plucked it out, looked at how covered in gunk it was.  Not sure of what I had, I secured it away and continued on detecting. Ten minutes later I get another "digger" signal, dug and extracted my plug, scanned the plug, nothing. I checked the hole and got a signal. I removed some loose dirt in the hole and at the bottom was another tiny disc shaped item. I picked it up and even though it was covered with dirt, I was very certain to what I had. I secured it as well, swung for another couple hours and headed out.

On my last pass I found a broken piece of pottery that to me struck a resemblance of the U.S. Flag, very fitting because after all, it was Memorial Day. I got home, gently cleared dirt and grime to identity both tiny discs, and WOW again!

I dug my first seated half dime dated 1838 and my first silver three cent piece/trime dated 1852!

WOW, what a great four days of swinging with my E-TRAC.
