Well my metal detecting friend and I turned up at my permission and a beautiful sunny day. There was the usual jokes with the competitive banter like my friend said he's going to find a hoard today and I said I'm just praying to the metal detecting Gods to help me find something to pay my mortgage, after I lost my job due to these crazy uncertain times. Anyway off we set with me with my Equinox 800 and my mate with his XP Deus to do battle of the ring pulls and cow tubes on a field that we have hit many times but has yielded very little because it's full of green waste. After a lot of shredded tin can my first great find was a broken part of bronze horse's harness over 20 inches deep. It was identified as Roman which was a great sign. My friend had disappeared as usual because I always go low and slow so not to miss is thing. Plus I was gridding the one section of the field. Next target was a lead spindle whorl which is more signs of Roman activity. I saw my mate heading down the back of the field towards the adjoining gate to another field. So I headed towards him and then I got a sweat sounding mid tone with an id of 12, so it had to be dug up. Near the gate it could be anything and my mate had just walked the same spot over but he goes fast and low. I put my spade in and dug around a shallow hole due to the hard rocky ground and I flipped the clod over and there's what looked like a gold coin...I was in disbelief until I reached down and picked it up...then BANG...GOLD HAMMERED COIN, which is like a holy grail of coins!!! I was jumping around like a madman shouting GOLD, GOLD, GOLD! My first gold and hammered coin with my Equinox 800, that I call Hannah, which I'm at one with. I can pick out a sliver coin riddled with iron and trash. My gold hammered coin is super rare Henry VIII 1526-1529 Gold Crown of the Double Rose.

I have been metal detecting off and on for 40 years and my first gold hammered coin which was at the top of my bucket list.
