The rain was getting heavier but I’d only been detecting for an hour. Looking at the puzzling bronze bits in my finds pouch again I wondered if I should take some photos with my phone, upload them to our Club Forum and hopefully get an I.D. before I called it a day. Now it’s not easy operating a 'touchscreen smart phone' in the rain. Predictive txt has nothing on this!
The rain easing off a bit I successfully typed my message and uploaded the pics. I then continued to search the area. Several rolled bits of lead followed and another piece of bronze that mached. Checking the forum on my phone in the field for feedback on my finds, there was talk of fragments of Twisted Torcs from the bronze age.
The excitement was growing. Another low tone and I dug down to reveal a large piece of what was just suggested. The next target was within 2 feet and my Explorer SE Pro give off a sweet High Tune. Here I unearthed a Dirk/Dagger blade & Palstave Axe head in the same hole.
I sat there in a dream state gazing out to the valleys beyond, stripping away all modern layers as I knew it. A Tribe in the Middle Bronze Age burying a hoard 3,500 years ago.
Thanks for the I.D. guys @ gwentdetecting.co.uk all is now officially recorded and taken to British Museum.
