Welcome to the "Family"

13 Apr 2022

I took my trusty Equinox 800 and 6" coil out on a cold, blistery Sunday morning to a local private, boarding school that was built in 1909. I'd been searching the campus for about 2 years now. It has a huge campus so there's always a place to search. There was a section I'd been wanting to search but always veered away from it due to it being close to the main building and did not want to search it while students and faculty were so close. The students were on Spring break and the only employee present was the security guard. I checked in with him and began detecting. I dug the usual clad, pulltabs, etc and due to the wind and temperature, the thought of my warm truck started to enter my mind. I was almost finished with the, "grid" I had in my mind and had decided I was going to leave after I finished the, "grid." A solid 17 VDI on my 800 made me forget the wind & my truck. I dug the plug, flipped it and checked the hole. Silence. I checked the plug and the screaming pinpointer told me where I needed to check. Out of the plug rolled a clump of dirt. I brushed off the dirt and staring at me was my first class ring! It wasnt even from the school I was detecting! Class of 1930. 10K. After much research, I found out the owner of the ring sadly passed away in 1978. Her husband has also passed and they had no children. I'm still searching for other possible relatives. I'm just thankful that I was able to have recovered it and discovered so much about a person that otherwise I'd never known existed.
