Viking ring pin

During last winter's storms I headed out during wild winter conditions in the dark on my local beach. On arrival I could see a new cut had opened up in the sand exposing a large area of rocks which is normally covered with sand. I set to work with my equinox 800 doing my best to keep the coil low to the ground despite the weather conditions making it a difficult task, at this point the winds must have been 40-50mph with driving rain, I was beginning to question my sanity! Lol. After an hour's detecting I decided to call it day and thought id try again the next day when conditions had improved. I left feeling a little disappointed having only found a few modern coins and what I thought was just a crusted up old key. It wasn't until I got home and broke off the black encrusted layer surrounding it that I got the shock of my life. What I thought was a part of key turned out to be a viking ring pin.
