While metal detecting in the swap behind my house in Virginia I was looking for artillery shells and ended up with a soldiers U.S. box plate, and a spur both between 16-20 inches deep in the mud. Both gave a very faint and scratchy signal, between 0 and 12, so I was very surprised to see these come out the mud.
