On July 20th, 2020, I decided to try out a permission I had received in the Vicksburg, Mississippi area. This is a well known area of U.S. Civil War activity. When I arrived there, I decided to go detecting in areas that are normally inaccessible due to frequent flooding. After about 30 minutes of detecting, I had recovered a couple of Civil War bullets when I came across an area where there is usually standing water; however, due to recent lack of rain, it was just dry enough to be able to explore with my Equinox. About 5 minutes into searching this area, I received a solid 16 signal. Expecting to dig up another bullet, I was pleasantly surprised to have uncovered a U.S. Civil War ammo box plate! After filling my hole, I continued detecting for about another 10 feet, when I received another very strong signal. After pinpointing and digging about 6 inches, I recovered a U.S. Eagle Civil War breast plate! I could not believe my luck! After doing some research, I discovered that these types of plates were often paired together on the same ammo pouches and are likely from the same bag a soldier had lost during battle. I am fortunate to have made this amazing find with the help of my Equinox 800. Thank you MineLab for making such a great machine!
