Treasure Hunting In Paradise

16 Mar 2019

I’ve been treasure hunting and prospecting for more than 20 years now, with loads of time spent beach prospecting, I’ll keep going until the body tells me otherwise. I hope that time is a long way off! I have the awesome EQUINOX 800. When my wife told me that we were going on holiday and that she had booked us somewhere with beautiful beaches you can imagine my first thought; beach prospecting! After some careful deliberation, I gently say to my wife, any chance that I could maybe, squeeze in a few hours at a beach with the detector? She knows me, she knows I’m cheeky and that I’ll always test the boundaries. The look on her face said it all but she knows my passion for detecting and when I told her that my latest detector is light, compact and I can easily put it in my check in luggage, she said ‘why not’! She even encouraged me to check out whether there were any local laws I needed to be aware of! I have been waiting for the day that I could go away and take my metal detector with me. Well done Minelab! I really love this machine, that it’s Waterproof and the fact you can take it to the Goldfields as well, such a bonus! Whilst the detector is compact< I wanted it to travel safely, so I made my own protector for the control box out of some foam material and wrapped it with bubble wrap as a precaution. We arrived in Paradise and the weather gods are in our favour, considering the most of the coastline was being battered by a cyclone at the time. As we get out and about, I soon spot the best place for a treasure hunt and It doesn’t take long to work out where the beach is most popular with tourists during the day, so that’s where I will be going at the crack of dawn tomorrow; I’m very excited to see what may be there to be found, if anything. The alarm goes off at 4.30am and I’m off in the golf buggy with my trusty EQUINOX safely buckled up in the back seat. There really is something so special about getting to the beach before dawn and watching the sunrise, detector in hand and finding treasure. I slowly work my way up towards the main part of the beach and the first coins start to appear. I detect for about an 90 mins and to my surprise I have found $34! I return the next morning, spend another 90 mins and find $33. It’s just so much fun finding what’s’ been dropped and of course if it’s close to he surface and it’s a serious piece of jewellery, a wallet, a phone, I make a visit to the local police station and hand it in. As you can see from the photos, nobody’s been here for a while, if at all, as most of the coins I found were very old and have been there for quite some time. All up I found total of $67 and one Sterling Silver pendant. If you’re a treasure hunter and want a good machine to take with you anywhere, I highly recommend picking up an EQUINOX 800. I dedicate this story to my beautiful wife Helen who is my greatest supporter. Good luck and Happy Hunting!
