I was out in California for work, and a friend of mine from a metal detecting forum very kindly took me out detecting with him. Hunting Southern California is the first. I don't get to California often, and don't know how to read the beaches like my friend does, so his help was invaluable.
We hit a couple of beaches over two days. First day was a lot of fun, found some clad, and a plastic "Happy Birthday" child's party ring that was PERFECT for my wife's birthday, which was two days later. All in all a fun hunt, but what came the next day was AMAZING.
The next day, we went to another beach and I found a junk toe ring, a couple bucks in clad, a mood ring type do-dad, a crusty old earring around the towel line. After my friend suggested moving from the towel line to the wet sand (it was low tide), I found a couple of dollars in clad coins, and about an hour later, from about 18 inches down in the wet sand, out pops my second and third firsts. This lovely piece of gold with diamonds my very first gold of any sort and my first engagement ring. Its real gold, and the diamonds are gorgeous.
The first picture is after a quick rinse, and the second is after it had been cleaned up. The third is right after finding it, before any cleaning.
I've hunted with other brands of detectors over the years, but the Nox 800 far surpasses anything else that I've used.
