This Thing Is A Beast!

26 Feb 2019

It was a Cold February 25, 2019. Tucson has just gotten snow the Friday before, the mountains surrounding where magnificent! All capped with snow and Baboquivari Peak was standing majestic and proud covered in powder above us! The Temperature was an ice forming 27 Degrees F (approx. -2 Degrees C). The muddy roads were frozen solid, the puddles from the snow were frozen over. The air was still and quiet. My dad and I wanted to try a new area. We tied the trusty GM1000's to the quad and I also packed along the GPX 5000 just in case. We finally got to our spot and warmed up. We decided to check up a nice looking tributary. He started detecting and I continued op the wash and discovered an arrastra (an old mill used to grind gold and silver ore usually operated by donkeys or horses) I wasn't able to get pictures because I left my phone at the quad. I decided to go back and join him. Within 20 minutes he had a gold target, it sounded good but was being finicky. This wash had a lot of old miner trash in it. Broken cans and pieces of metal littered the wash. Well he persisted and managed to pull out a nice piece! We were not skunked!! Another hour went by and I Finally pulled out a nice piece of chunky yellow! We spent a full day detecting and both got some color! Thank you Minelab!!
