The story starts in a small town outside of Austin TX call Lockhart. My detecting buddies and I were having a mediocre day of door knocking permissions. Found a few wheat pennies and a couple relics each but nothing to special. It was starting to get late so we all agreed on one more permission, then we will call it a day. Walking along the street we saw a gentleman and his child outside cleaning up his yard so we asked permission to hunt his yard which had a house built in 1935. He granted us permission. We didn't have high hopes due to the slow day we had and the house was the newest house we hunted that day.
I started swinging along the sidewalk that connects to the front porch and I found a couple pieces of can slaw and a modern penny. At that point, I started feeling a little discouraged but kept going. I made it up to the house and started back towards the street and I got a low tone reading 12-09 12-10. I thought it was more can slaw but dug anyways. About 4 inches down, I saw the edge of something gold color in a clump of dirt. Still thinking it was just gold color junk, I broke the clump of dirt and saw a coin!!!
At this point I was in shock and called my buddies over and show them what I had. A beautiful 1851 Gold $1 coin!!!! They were both extremely excited for me and extremely jealous haha!! My oldest coin and my first gold coin ever!!! Remember to never give up and dig everything because you never know what kind of history/treasure you are going to save!!
Thank you Minelab for an amazing product that helps save history that would have never been found!
