My E-TRAC has surprised me with its findings more than once.
This past weekend it did not let me down! As I was driving along last week I often pass by older houses and wonder what might be in the ground. Recently, I've been stopping at more and more of these spots asking permission to metal detect their properties.
Last week as I drove, I passed a very small stone house that dated at least to the early 1800's. I stopped and talked to the old owner who gladly gave me permission to "have fun". She only had a very small yard but I figured maybe I'd get lucky.
I hunted her yard for about 15 minutes getting tons of iron signals, but then I got a very loud and sharp 1-40 reading on my E-TRAC!
Hmmmmm, I thought, this could be good! I dug a shallow plus and flipped it over. Laying in the hole was something very big and shiny. I snatched it up, A SILVER WATCH!!!!
After getting it home and doing some research I have learned it is a Fahys coin silver watch case with a Waltham clock movement. It is dated somewhere between 1800-1806!
I still can't get over the condition of it and the size and weight. This thing weighs nearly 90grams of coin silver!! :)
