The Power of Zed on Small Gold

07 Aug 2016

I've been using my Minelab GPZ 7000 for about a year and a half now. Just over a year ago I went to a meteorite strewn field in Arizona and found many small meteorites with the 7000. I wrote a story about that called 'The Power of Zed on Meteorites' and I won for find of the month. Thank you Minelab. This trip is about a night/day hunt in Southern California where my target was gold. I've used the Zed in this area several times and my metal detecting friends also have 7000s and 2300s. This trip was a 'breakthrough' trip for me because I ended up with 12 total nuggets for 3g over a 16 hour period. The 1g nugget in the center was down about 14 inches in the sand and rock. The other nuggets were less than that. I've found really nice large nuggets in the past with the GPX 5000. (One is a 1.5/3.5 ozt specimen and the other is an 8/20.5 ozt specimen.) I've never found such small gold as this. The size of the nuggets is really amazing. As I was listening for the signals, I didn't really notice the size other than it was sometimes hard to get the nugget in the scoop. When I put them together in the display it astounded me how small a nugget the 7000 can find. The small nugget in the picture is about .05g! I have found the smallest meteorites with the Zed and now I have found the smallest gold also. Thank you again Minelab.
