The Hole

02 Feb 2012

I came across an untouched, virgin location in the Summer of 2011. I had detected this site once before back in Spring with no luck at all. It was cold and I was digging deep clad for a couple hours before calling it quits. I told myself this may have been a good site at one time but it has clearly been cleaned out. If I would have not convinced myself otherwise, I obviously would not be writing this story. This location, which I termed as “The Hole” was a public gathering place in Central Ohio. While I do not know the exact details of how the site was used in the past, I do know some religious communities use this site yearly for annual festivals. With the exception the 1787 New Jersey coin I found, most of the items found were between 1863 through the mid 1900’s. I had detected this site hard for seven straight days and came away with some jaw-dropping finds each hunt.
