I was asked to work away for a month and before leaving a friend of mine who lives where I’d be working told me to bring my detector along so we could have a swing on the weekends and let’s just say that I’m very glad he did. It was the very next Sunday we went out detecting and I asked my friend if he could take me somewhere that I could find my first Florin, He mentioned that he had a spot in mind so after arriving we walked in and began detecting the first few Signals we each got were just one and two cent pieces
( copper ) which sound great but not what we were after, after some time I’d found a handful of Pennies, Threepence’s and a Rams head shilling, My friend had found very much the same but was certain there was going to be a Florin here so we just kept swinging, Towards the end of the day we were Detecting the last area we wanted to try before leaving and I suddenly heard a solid tone that rang in the low 30’s ( 32-33 ) among a few other scratchy tones and thought to myself yep this is it, I called Matt over to have a listen and separate the targets a little better as I was using the 11” coil and he had the 6”After he swung it a few times I could see his excitement building and he said okay dig a nice big hole just to make sure, I proceeded to dig and after flipping the plug to the side and running the pin pointer over it there was nothing to be heard so we knew it was still in the hole, we both looked down and he said I can see a coin and reached in to grab it but I could also see what I thought was the coin he was talking about, when he reached in and grabbed a completely different coin I was shocked and quickly grabbed the coin I could see which ended up being a 1906 British Threepence, The coin he had grabbed was a 1918 One Florin Two Shilling’s and my first ever Florin we were both over the moon, But following the golden rule of rechecking your hole paid off as there was another signal which was a 1925 Sixpence yet there was still another signal In the hole, after digging a little more we could see it Matt reached in to grab it and the look on his face said it all he looks at me and says you’ve just Found a 1927 Parliament House commemorative Florin and I don’t know of anyone who’s done that, we were both shocked and so excited about what we had found not to mention that fact I not only got my First Florin but two in the same hole as a coin spill Unreal!
