The Equinox 600 is a winner!!!

18 Mar 2019

This past weekend I used the EQUINOX 600 to search for relics at a large site with several friends. Research indicated that this area was a revolutionary-period trading post and may have had some camp activity on it.

I recently purchased the EQUINOX 600 to complement my GPX 4800 and am still a relatively new user to it. I used it several times successfully at the beach this past year, but this was my first big relic hunt. I had tested some of the settings prior to the hunt so to ensure a "clean start" I did a factory reset, easily and quickly connected the BT headphones and was off detecting. I chose to hunt in Field 2 with a very slight threshold hum. Everything else ran with the default settings.

To start off, I dug a few iffy signals that jumped into the negative numbers just to see what was there and the Equinox 600 was telling the truth: they were either junk iron targets or modern trash. For the rest of the day I only dug repeatable signals in the Field 2 program and was very happy with the results.

I was very excited when I got a solid TID 13 signal on the Equinox 600 and dug out a piece of lead with the date 1767 on it. Upon further inspection it was determined to be a lead bail seal. I also came across several pewter and brass flat buttons that date to the 1700’s. Also, I found a large piece of brass which several of my friends helped me ID as part of the trigger guard from a revolutionary period rifle.

I met with my friends and one of them was fortunate to have dug a cut piece of silver real/pistareen. My other friend tested the target on his EQUINOX to get a TID and it came up as 19.

Well later on near the end of the day I got another good signal. It rang up as a 19 and down 6” I dug out my own cut piece of silver real/pistareen. Half of the date was cut off on it but the “17” from 17xx is still legible.

To summarize, I am beyond impressed with how well the EQUINOX 600 identified and found that small of a target! I think it really shows the power of the Multi-IQ technology!
