The Biggest OMG of my Detecting Career

29 Mar 2022

I starting detecting in 2014. I went to my first Diggin in Virginia (DIV) hunt in 2015 and quickly realized my ATPro wasn't going to cut the mustard. So I bit the bullet lol and purchased a GPX 4500 prior to the next DIV. DIV 51 was held March 25-27, 2022. The hunt was held outside Culpeper this past weekend. So after the pre-hunt meeting my crew decided that we would hit the NY CAMP UP in TIMBUCKTOO. It's a heck of a trip up and over the mountain or very large hill. Took a Solld 45 minutes to get there and there were already 40 people there at the far end. So I started at the entrance to the field and got a smashing signal. It was just so clean every way. As I am digging the plug, I'm thinking, it doesn't sound like a bullet or a button, but dig it, it's a sweet tone. I dug a 4 inch deep plug, flipped it, and the signal is still In the hole. I then put my shovel on the edge of the hole and dug another four inches and pried to pop the plug out and seen this little gold thing flip in the air and said F$%*%g junk. When it landed next to the plug I looked at it and said OMG at least a dozen times until someone came over and said what ya got. All I could do was hold my hands out and say this. Trembling and could barely take pictures. Most exciting day of detecting. John and Rose, owners of DIV came to see the coin and I told them it was a 1953 lol, and John said maybe 1853? I laughed and said yes, sorry my heart is still going over 100. I have dug tons of great finds with my GPX, and a gold coin was never on my bucket list, it was on my "I will never find list". BEST DAY EVER!!!!!! Now I need to find my first plate lol.
