I have had my Minelab CTX3030 for five years and had some nice finds but last Saturday is the best yet. Storm Denis was starting to make itself know with high winds and rain. The club were on a new field and 30 minutes searching and only 2 pieces of lead I had a signal of 12/42. It was a bit jumpy but I started to dig a hit stones after 3 inches at7 inches I checked the spoil and unearthed a goldish stater but not the usual ones for our area. I checked the hole again and still had a signal. After searching with my pin pointer I located another stater. I filled in the hole and passed the detector over the area and 18 inches away I had another signal. Digging down among the stones I retrieved another 2 staters. By now club members were helping to make the holes bigger. After 2 hours I had 34 staters which turned out to be American staters in base gold struck by the Baiocasses in Lower Normandy in c. 100/70 BC.
