SILVER IN THE HOLE

12 Mar 2020

Today was another great days detecting found a lot of old relics, well old for our country as Europeans only arrived here in 1845. I found A really cool coin...well a couple actually. I was in the middle of a paddock and got a 23 signal on the Equinox 600 the signal was ringing up super loud but said it was at maximum depth first thing I thought was it’s got to be a big piece of stainless steel or maybe a beer can. I stuck my spade in the hard ground and gave it a really good old stomp to get It in there. After a few minutes of struggling with the dry hard soil I finally got the plug out but still no sound from the pin pointer, I had another little dig around with my hand shovel and out popped this little beauty! I was TOTALLY AMAZED at the condition but had never seen one before, after posting it on our club Facebook page I was told it’s called a GROAT ( 1855 British four pence ) and they aren’t come by very often over here in little old New Zealand. I also found my first Victoria penny today its 1860 the signal was 18. This was very deep about 25cm. Well that’s enough of a break for me, time to go dig some more holes.
