I have been metal detecting for the last 14 years and I have used several metal detectors in that time. I bought my Minelab CTX 3030 five years ago I must say it has to be the finest metal detector at finding old coins that I have ever used. To prove that just three weeks ago I found my best coin yet. I was metal detecting an old park from the 1880’s. It is a hard hit and an iron-infested site. Most people come away empty handed. While detecting along a sidewalk sifting through the iron I got a high tone coin signal that was only hitting from one direction. Fortunately, I was using combined mode with Target Trace and I could see that the screen was showing me a coin target with an iron target. It was enough information for me to decide to dig and I am glad I did! About 5” down and on edge I found a large silver coin. At first, I thought I had found a silver half, but to my shock and delight, it was an 1883 Morgan silver dollar! Not only have that, but a Carson City mint, which made it a more valuable found because of its lower mintage. My CTX 3030 helped me find my first silver dollar. Minelab has a customer for life!
