I got off of work today and only had a hour to metal detect. I got got my Equinox 600 last week and I want to take it out. So I said I'll hit the yard and see what coins I can find around the clothesline. I was running it in field 2 amd found a couple Lincoln memorial cents. Amd then on the next pass I had a 11 to 13 reading I said let's see what this is as I'm still learning my machine. I pinpoint it and start digging. I get down 10 inches and see what looks like part of a gun barrel or old pipe. I go get my 92 year old neighbor so he could see it. I told him I think this may be a barrel. He bends over and says looks like an old pipe . I said what's that part coming off of the sode oof it then . He says I don't know . So I run the 600 back over it and find the ends. I told him it's about 3 foot long . He perked up amd said maybe you are right. I started digging outside the ends of it so I did not hit it digging. Then I felt the hammer amd trigger gauard. I knew it was a barrel then. After getting it out and spraying it off. I could see it was a octagon barrel amd a single shot rifle of a small caliber. After a lil homework I found out its a Remington rolling block no.4 single shot rifle. My Minelab Equinox has earned my respect for sure now. Check your yard you never know what the machine will find beneath your feet. Happy hunting.
