Hi my name is Colin and I live in Halifax West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. I am a member of the Yorkshire Searchers Metal Detecting Club, and have been a keen metal detectorist since 1990.
On Sunday I was out detecting with the Yorkshire Searchers it was a nice sunny day, we were detecting on ploughed land and it was very easy to dig.
In the morning all I was finding was military buttons, but the friend I had gone with had found a Victorian Silver Shilling and a Georgian Silver Bull Head Sixpence. I kept thinking to myself I will eventually find a coin, and in the afternoon session very unexpectedly I got a very good signal on my CTX 3030, it was about 10 inch down in the soil, I couldn't believe what I had just found, it was a Richard 111 1483-1485 long cross Silver Hammered Groat, it was my first hammered coin for 2014 and it was certainly worth waiting for.
When I got home I checked in the Spinks Coin Book to get a more definite ID and it is quite a rare coin. Since finding Richard 111 remains underneath a car park in Leicester in 2013 it has generated a lot of interest in the UK, but one thing for sure this coin is certainly going into my small collections of finds.
