Returning to Pompeii

16 Feb 2020

After spending the summer in Pompeii in 2018 excavating old bakery's, I was asked to return back there for a number of weeks, To catalogue many artifacts, from pieces of pottery, coins, frescos to loafs of bread. When I arrived at the site a section of Pompeii known as Regis 7 was excavated, and deep in the tunnel things started to come to light as the ash and dust where cleaned away and artifacts could now start being brought up. But to mine and my colleagues amazement we did not expect to see perfectly intact pigment pots of powder with some absolutely stunning colours. These mineral pigments would have belonged to a painter for mixing paints to create some of the stunning artwork that's still being uncovered to this day. My journey is just beginning. Now I am here for a bit longer uncovering more fantastic finds I will be journeying to Denmark to seek out the vikings.
