Hello, my name is Ken and this story is about the best find I have ever made.
This takes place in mid Sept. of 2006 in the city park in my hometown( Woodbury,TN 37190). I had purchased a used Minelab Sovereign XS-2A Pro with an 8 in sunray coil(S8). This was backup to my explorer 2. I went to the area in the park I was at the week before.
I had been there with the Explorer II, but had only a few months of using it, so I was still learning the machine.
I went over the area with the Sovereign and it was singing. There was no doubt it was a good target. The ID meter was locking down on 546. I dug over a foot down and finally unearthed the treasure. It was a classic oxbow style stirrup made of solid brass.
I have been several places in my area(i.e. tack shops, antique shops, stable owners, etc), and no one has a clue to about how old who could have had it.
The closest I've found that resembles it is in a book entitled Horse Equipment of The Civil War Era by Howard R. Crouch. If anyone has any idea about the stirrup please let me know. Thanks and Happy Hunting!!!!!!!
