Sovereign GT

Proud to be Part of a Great Story

05 Nov 2011

It was about 2 year's ago when useing my Sovereign GT that I came across a lovley little gold ring. At the time I remember thing it was nice but not really what I was looking for. After a day's detecting I took the ring along with other find's to show the farmer. He was out at the time so I showed his wife. She had a good look of the ring and said she dosn't think it belonged to any of the family. A few week's went bye and I decided to go back to the same farm but diffrent field's.. i foned the farmer to get permision, he then asked me if I still had the ring and could I bring it when we next visit (which I did)... as soon as he seen the ring he told me it was his sister's who lost it over 40 year's ago and could he have it to give her it back.. no problem I said... Well that was 2 year's ago, and haveing not been back to the farm I did not know she had sent me the letter.. I will let you read the letter as it's a great story and one which I'm proud to be part of.....

"I Wrote you a letter of thanks almost a year ago but I never had your contact details and I am sorry that it got forgotten because I really did want to thank you for returning my mother's signet ring to me. Chris and Val may have told you the story of how I lost it in the harvest field. My mum gave me the ring when I became a teenager, she had received it from her father, who died when I was about a year old. I never Knew him but felt I had a connection through the ring, which Mum gave to me when I was 13, I am now 62. I only had the ring a couple of years before i lost it, it just slipped of my finger onto the ground and finding it in the stubble was impossible. I noted where I had lost it by counting the number of chestnut threes from the road and the number of stooks in the opposite direction. My Dad searched as did my cousin who worked on the farm and they looked again when the field was ploughed but it never turned up. My Mum and Dad both died over 25 years ago and my cousin died four years ago, I wish they could know that I have the ring back. I thought about it lots over the years and must have told Val the tale at some time, thank goodness I did. You can't imagine how overjoyed I was when I heard that after 45 years the ring had been discovered, and I can't tell you how kind you have been going to the trouble of locating the owner. As a gold ring it probably doesn't have great value but it is priceless to me. My niece, Chris and Val's eldest daughter, had her first baby last October and I have promised the ring to Amelia when she is older. For now I am treasuring it, I feel I should have it myself for a few years at least before I pass it on. I hope you have lots of success with your metal detecting but as far as I am concerned this is your greatest ever find. I thank you so much I hope I have managed to convey to you some of the gratitude I feel. I have as a token given Chris some money, I expect your wouldn't accept any yourself, so your metal detecting at ____________ paid for the coming year, 2011. Thank you again. Your sincerely..."
