It was an early Saturday morning and my buddy Joe and I headed out to a place we fondly call Trash Park. The several block area had a few houses in 1900 than a housing boom in the 30’s that was all bulldozed and left in the 70’s. It’s a place that takes patience to detect but we have had good luck with tootsie toys and some silver coins. That morning we headed to one of the 1900 house lots and started digging out the usual pipes and aluminium siding chunks. I spotted a big tree and started to work it. Pulled out the front flap of a mailbox and crammed it in my trash full pouch then my next signal was a solid 25. Only an inch down and out popped a shiny gold coloured ring! I called over Joe and as we cleaned it off we realized it was junk, gold plated with a rusted seam in the design of a belt buckle. Still it was the best we had found. As Joe walked away he asked the VDI and I yelled “25” picked up my coil and swung and then said “and it still is!”. I popped a little deeper plug and two more rings were in the hole. These ones were the real deal, a gorgeous rose intaglio set in silver and a 20 carat gold set with dazzling purple amethysts! Treasure plucked from the trash!
