Not So Elusive... With a Minelab

05 May 2011

I am new to metal detecting. In fact, I started detecting at the beginning of February of this year. My first purchase was a White's GMT with which I had absolutely no luck in finding any of the elusive yellow metal. After a few weeks of failure with the White's GMT I sold it and bought a Fisher Gold Bug Pro. I used the GB Pro extensively for several weeks. I was hunting an old gold mine from the early 1920's on a daily basis, and after telling other local prospectors where I was hunting, I was told numerous times how there was no gold there, etc. I felt in my heart of hearts that there was indeed gold at the location but I needed to have the right equipment to find it. So on May 2, 2011, I sold my Fisher Gold Bug Pro and purchased a Eureka Gold. After getting my lesson from the dealer, Prospector's Depot in Joshua Tree, California, I set out the very next day to pound the ground where I had searched so many times before with other detectors to no avail. In less than 10 minutes I had dug up my very first nugget ever, a 1-pennyweight, arrowhead shaped nugget. I had covered the same area extensively over a month long period with two other detectors. In fact, the dealer that sold me the Gold Bug Pro had been detecting for over 5 years before finding his first nugget, which weighed in a 1/4 of a gram. Needless to say he had some choice words for me. Thank you Minelab for doing something that the other manufacturers couldn't do... make prospecting fun for me. C.L. Coffee – California, USA
