No Big Bills But A Big Thrill!

20 Apr 2020

A friend of mine received a tip on a mason jar buried with $1000 bills on his parent's property. Rumour has hit, his grandfather buried the cash next to stone benches on their 10-acre land. So we made the two-and-a-half-hour one-way drive across Wisconsin to search for the jar. We cleared some brush, found the benches and began the search. Apparently, he buried the jar sometime in the late 50's and early 60's. We spent most of the day swinging. I used the Minelab Equinox 800 and my friend had a competitor's model. Bottom line, we never found the Mason jar. We plan to go back and search again. However, about 10 feet away from one of the stone benches, I was able to find a beautiful 1917 Standing Liberty Quarter with my Equinox 800 roughly 7-8 inches deep. As most detectorists know, SLQ's typically come out of the ground in rough shape. Many times it's hard to even see a date on them. But this type 1 SLQ was in very nice condition as you can see in the photos. We didn't find the big prize, (yet) but I was able to leave knowing all hope was not lost.
